For those Myanmar food lovers living in Thailand or visiting Thailand, it is not always easy to find Myanmar food in Thailand. We at Myanmar Today would like to point those Myanmar food lovers to a Myanmar restaurant in the center of Bangkok that serve authentic Myanmar food. There is one Myanmar restaurant near Bumrungrad International Hospital near Sukumvit Soi 1. The restaurant does not have a special name – simply called “Myanmar Cuisine”, and serve authentic and delicious Myanmar food to customers. Each set meal consists of one serving of rice and one main dish and cost around 50 baht (less than 2 US dollar), which is considered quite reasonable. The restaurant serves around 20 dishes for breakfast and lunch. During breakfast, they also serve Monhingha (Burmese rice noodle soup). You can also order Burmese style milk tea for your breakfast or lunch. Popular dishes serve here include Burmese style pork curry, fried roselle leaves, Burmese style chicken liver curry, and fish curry. The restaurant regrettably does not serve halal food though. The staffs are quite friendly and food preparation and display are quite clean. The restaurant usually closes around 4 PM so dinner is not an option here.

Myanmar Today’s recommended dishes and food from Myanmar Cuisine Restaurant are

  • Fried roselle leaves (chin-baung-kyaw)
  • Fried shrimp with shrimp paste (balachaing kyaw or nga-pi-kyaw)
  • Burmese style pork curry with fermented bean paste (wet-pone-ye)
  • Chicken liver curry (kyet-the-kyet-myit)
  • Burmese style fish curry
  • Mont-hin-gar (Burmese noodle soup) – serves only in the morning
  • Mont-hin-gar-thoat (Burmese style noodle salad)
  • Fried fermented bamboo shoot (myhit-kyaw)
  • Burmese style milk tea

You can reach the restaurant from the nearest BTS Sky train station at Ploenchit or Nana (Ploenchit BTS station is nearer). From there, walk along Sukumvit road towards Soi 1 (towards East), turn into Soi 1 and walk around 500 meters until you reach the Bumrungrad Hospital. Turn into the street that leads to the hospital and you will find the restaurant near the corner in the street. Please see the map below for detailed direction.
