Maymyo (Pyinoolwin) has a number of restaurants and cafes that cater for both locals and tourists alike. Recently, there are a few restaurants and cafes that aim at tourists. Most restaurants, however, are not expensive. They serve Chinese, Burmese, Indian, European and Shan food. In addition to these restaurants, there are a number of road side stalls that open early in the morning or in the evening. They sell cheap but delicious local food. Teashops are a popular choice of breakfast for locals and a good choice for the tourists as well. They are also meeting places for locals so teashops provide ideal places for tourists to meet and see the local way of life. Café and Snack Bars Golden Triangle Café and Bakery This is not a normal café that you see in the streets of Myanmar (Burma). Friendly, cozy and comfortable, this high end café and confectionery serve good quality bread, pizza, hamburger, snacks, cold drinks and excellent locally grown, roasted and brewed coffee. You can also buy back home this famous local brand of coffee here – Café Fino and Misty Mountain coffee. Phone 085-24288. Day and night cafe This small café, situated on Zewa Road, is [...]

Maymyo eating – restaurant and cafes is an article from Myanmar Today, a site about Myanmar news, culture, custom, information and travel advice.

Anisakhan Fall (Dattawjient Fall) This spectacular fall is located near the Anisakhan Village, about 9 km south of Pyinoolwin, off the Mandalay – Maymyo (Pyinoolwin) Road. From the village of Anisakhan on the main road, turn right at the train station and continue for another 2 km to reach the car parking area. From here, it is a 45 minute descent on foot through a river gorge to reach the fall. The fall consists of five steps; the third is quite impressive. You can get a regular pickup bus from Maymyo (Pyinoolwin) to Anisakhan village. Better idea is to hire a taxi to the fall (up to the parking area). There is an entrance fee to the fall for foreigners. Pwe Kauk Fall (Hampshire Fall) Located 8 miles north east of Maymyo (Pyinoolwin), off the Mandalay – Lashio Road, Pwe Kauk Fall is an ideal place for picnics. Locally known as BE Fall, it was called Hampshire Fall during the British colonial period. The fall itself is not much spectacular but the location is quite peaceful, making it a favorite spot for picnic among the locals. You can swim in the upper part of the fall but the lower part [...]

Around Maymyo (Pyinoolwin) is an article from Myanmar Today, a site about Myanmar news, culture, custom, information and travel advice.

Kandawgyi Lake and Garden The first place you must visit is the Kandawgyi Lake and the Botanical Garden (the lake is inside the garden). This garden is reputed to be the most beautiful garden in Myanmar. Currently renovated to an international standard, the garden was renamed National Kandawgyi Garden, and run by the Woodlands Group of Singapore. The garden was first started by British botanist Mr. Roger in 1915 who collected local plants and trees and cultivated them on a 30 acre land at the present Kandawgyi Garden. In 1919, the government gave official sanction to the garden with 170 acres of land and 70 acres of water. The Maymyo (Pyinoolwin) Botanical Garden was laid out in the design of Kew Gardens in England. In 1920, the garden was declared a forest reserved and placed under the department of forestry. 4840 trees, mostly pine trees, were planted in the garden, together with 575 different floral species. The Maymyo Botanical Garden (National Kandawgyi Garden) currently features the rich life of 482 local and foreign trees (including ginkgo which is extinct elsewhere) and more than 250 species of orchids around Myanmar. There is also a ten storey watch tower which you can [...]

Maymyo sight seeing is an article from Myanmar Today, a site about Myanmar news, culture, custom, information and travel advice.

Usually, all hotels inside the town are budget hotels while those higher end hotels are usually found in the residential areas around the ring road. Some of the hotels in Maymyo, especially government run hotels have long standing history running back to British colonial time. Hotel staffs are usually very friendly and helpful; typical of hotels in Myanmar. They can usually speak English and will provide you information about your travel. Government hotels – A taste of Burma’s past There are three government run hotels in Maymyo (Pyinoolwin). They are large and grand old colonial era hotels. Many foreign tourists avoid these hotels because of government affiliate. Situated on a ground of 15 acres, this hotel was a colonial rest house during British occupation of Burma.
